MEMPHIS, TENN., March 1, 2023 – West Cancer Foundation, whose mission is to break through barriers to cancer care and improve patient outcomes, today announced the second annual She to Sea cycling event will launch on March 18 and include 14 women who will cycle from Memphis to Seagrove Beach, Fla., to raise funds for the foundation and the fight against cancer. The group of elite athletes will ride more than 500 miles over five days and arrive in Seagrove Beach on March 22.
She to Sea was started in 2022 by 10 seasoned female athletes who wanted to honor the lives of those touched by cancer and raise money to improve cancer care and research in the Memphis area. This year’s event is presented by Pinnacle Financial Partners│Fountain Financial Group with additional sponsorship from Eisai, Marx-Bensdorf Realtors and Vulcraft Steel Manufacturer.
“We’re thrilled to celebrate these incredible cyclists and their commitment to the fight against cancer,” said West Cancer Foundation Executive Director Leighanne Hart Soden. “Their passion and impressive dedication to their sport will help us achieve our mission at West Cancer Foundation and increase resources for cancer care in our community.”
The inspiration for the creation of She to Sea is the Ride 2 Rosemary℠ event, which is now in its 13th year and includes a team of more than 60 men who ride from Memphis to Rosemary Beach, Fla. to raise funds for West Cancer Foundation.
She to Sea cyclists will depart Memphis on Saturday, March 18, at 8:30 a.m. from the West Cancer Center located at 7945 Wolf River Boulevard in Germantown, Tenn. The team will ride more than 100 miles per day and the route will take them and their support crew from Germantown through Tupelo, Miss., and Tuscaloosa, Selma and Andalusia, Ala. before finally arriving at Seagrove Beach, Fla. on Wednesday, March 22.
