The She to Sea cycling team is raring to go for West Cancer Foundation! On March 18, a team of 14 women will strike out from Memphis and bike more than 100 miles a day over five days to Seagrove Beach, FL, to raise funds for WCF and the fight against cancer. The second annual She to Sea features elite athletes who’ve spent months training for the more than 500-mile journey. This year’s event is presented by Pinnacle Financial Partners│Fountain Financial Group with additional sponsorship from Eisai, Marx-Bensdorf Realtors and Vulcraft Steel Manufacturer.

Catching a Ride Made All the Difference for Denise
When Denise was diagnosed with cervical cancer she had a lot to worry about, including how she would get to and from her appointments since she doesn’t drive long distances. Fortunately, she was referred to West Cancer Foundation for help with transportation which completely removed the stress of getting to her treatments so that she could focus onher treatments. “It is a good feeling to know that someone is going to be there to pick you up and bring you home. It takes a big load off, especially when you’re dealing with treatments.The foundation is amazing, and this program is a godsend.” Denise D.

New FDA Rules Will Improve Breast Cancer Screening
The Food and Drug Administration just released new national screening standards that will help detect breast cancer earlier for more women who have “dense breast tissue” which affects about half of women over 40, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Dense breast tissue can make cancers more difficult to detect on a mammogram, and dense breasts have been identified as a risk factor for developing breast cancer. The new rules will require mammogram providers across the U.S. to notify women if they have dense breast tissue and recommend that they consult with a doctor to determine whether they need additional screening.
According to JoAnn Pushkin, executive director of New York-based DenseBreast-info, “Dense breasts show up white on a mammogram. Unfortunately, so does cancer. So that cancer in dense breast tissue is like trying to find a snowball in a blizzard easily missed and overlooked,” she said.
