Meet the Co-Chairs Behind Memphis’ Largest Cancer Survivor Celebration

On Saturday, September 6th, thousands will gather at Shelby Farms Park for the 13th annual West Fight On— Memphis’ largest cancer survivor celebration.

At the heart of this event—the largest fundraiser for West Cancer Foundation—are two people with a lot of heart and a lot of energy to bring the event to life. Meet Richard Murphy and Emily Willhite, co-chairs of this year’s West Fight On, in our latest blog.

Community Spotlight:  Men’s Health Fair & Prostate Screening Success

This month, West Cancer Foundation proudly hosted a powerful Men’s Community Health Fair and Prostate Screening event, bringing essential health services and life-saving education to local men and their families. Thanks to the incredible collaboration with ZERO Prostate Cancer / Man2Man Prostate Cancer Group, Men’s Health Network, and Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church Care Counseling Ministry, the event delivered free prostate screenings to 66 men along with wellness resources and expert guidance to those who need it most.

A special thank you goes out to all the special guest speakers who shared their insights and inspired attendees to take charge of their health. Together, we are breaking down barriers to cancer care and making men’s health a community priority.

Welcome to the team, Amy Bethea

Please join us in welcoming our newest addition to the West Cancer Foundation family, Amy Bethea. Amy is a Memphis native, proud alumna of Christian Brothers University and a thriving breast and stomach cancer survivor. Amy is passionate about our mission, and her ability to relate to the patients we serve is an invaluable asset. We are thrilled to have her on board!

Pickleball for a Cure!

Earlier this month, more than 80 pickleball players came to the 2nd Annual Donna Goodfellow Memorial CTC Open, hosted by Courage Thru Cancer and benefiting West Cancer Foundation. Forty-three teams passionately competed in the tournament, all in support of a noble cause.

The tournament is in memory of Donna Goodfellow, a beloved figure in the community whose courageous battle against cancer serves as a poignant reminder of the strength and determination that define so many touched by this disease.

We’re proud to share that Janie Lowery, West Cancer Foundation board member, took home 1st place in the 3.0/3.5 women’s division—a fantastic win that reflects the same spirit of perseverance we champion every day.

In the midst of friendly matches, we found unity in our shared commitment to making a difference. Each serve, dink and point scored echoed the collective determination to honor those who have faced cancer with unwavering courage.

Thank you to Courage Thru Cancer for putting on a great event and to all who participated, volunteered and supported it. Your contributions help us continue our mission of providing free, practical services to those affected by cancer, ensuring that no one fights alone. Together, we are breaking barriers.

Melodies for Miracles

Thank you to everyone who came out for Sharonda Kay Mitchell’s Melodies for Miracles concert—a night of inspiring performances and powerful conversations. Sharonda shared her story through songs she wrote, from cancer diagnosis to being cancer free. Her music became the testimony of her fight, her faith and her journey, deeply moving everyone in attendance. Thanks to your generosity, the concert raised $2,500 in support of West Cancer Foundation’s mission to provide compassionate cancer services to those in need. A special shout out to the talented musicians, generous donors and incredible volunteers who made this event a success.
