Charlotte had been getting routine mammograms for more than 15 years and in 2016 was diagnosed with stage 0 breast cancer. The mammogram, thankfully, detected the cancer before it had even formed a lump or had a chance to spread.
Today, she is cancer free. However, since undergoing treatment for the cancer, her hair began to thin and fall out which significantly impacted her self-esteem and mental health. That’s when she came across West Cancer Foundation’s Sweet Wig Beauty Boutique.
“I am at a point in my life where I really have to watch how I spend money because I am a widow. I was skeptical about buying wigs when that money could go to food, and I couldn’t go to a beautician either. This has been a very positive experience for me.”
The Sweet Wig Beauty Boutique provides free wigs, hats and head scarves to cancer patients who have experienced hair loss as a result of their treatment. The wig salon allows patients to try on various styles in a discrete, spa-like setting. It’s completely free and open to any cancer patient regardless of where they are being treated.
Through West Cancer Foundation, Charlotte was able to try on and select a wig to bring home. When describing her experience with West Cancer Foundation, Charlotte said, “It was so positive! I’ve always been a glamorous, beautiful woman and this just makes me feel so much better about myself.”
