The Countdown is On: Less than Two Months Until West Fight On

The countdown is on—West Fight On returns to Shelby Farms Park on Saturday, September 6, and now’s the time to sign up! As the Mid-South’s largest cancer survivor event, West Fight On brings together walkers, runners, cyclists, survivors and community partners for a day of strength, unity, impact and some fun along the way.

There’s cycling (20-, 40- and 60-mile), a 5K walk/run, a 1-mile tribute walk, a Kids Bike Parade and a powerful survivor celebration. The festive family-friendly atmosphere has music, food, a fun photo booth and a Kid’s Zone complete with face painting, ice cream and a bounce house. There’s truly something for everyone! All proceeds support free cancer services for Mid-South families, including screenings, transportation, mental health counseling and other support programs.

Faith, Healing and Hope: Pastor Dianne Young’s
Heart for Memphis

Pastor Dianne Young has long been a powerful voice for healing in Memphis—through her ministry, mental health advocacy and her dedicated service on the Board of West Cancer Foundation. In our latest blog, Pastor Young shares her deeply personal journey from postal worker to pastor, her pioneering work in emotional wellness, and why she continues to champion the Foundation’s mission to provide free cancer services to those who need them most. As a mother, minister and community advocate, she reminds us that healing starts with compassion.

Delivering on our Promise

West Cancer Foundation is delivering free cancer services every day to people throughout the Mid-South. It could be a free mammogram for a woman who lacks insurance; a free ride to an elderly gentleman who needs to get to his treatment; a free wig to make someone feel whole again or free mental health counseling to help sort through the trauma of cancer.

So far this year, the Foundation has helped more than 4,400 people by breaking barriers to cancer care with:

  • 3,366 Rides
  • 149 Wigs/Hats/Scarves
  • 89 Mental Health Visit Vouchers
  • 72 Post-Mastectomy Prostheses and/or Garments
  • 66 Prostate Screenings
  • 54 Breast Screenings
  • 45 Lymphedema Garments

Won’t you please help us continue our important mission. Even the smallest donation will help someone today.

Melodies for Miracles

In a groundbreaking study presented at this year’s annual conference of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), researchers found that regular exercise improved colon cancer survival by 7%—more than the benefit typically gained from chemotherapy. This adds to a growing body of evidence supporting lifestyle changes as powerful tools in cancer treatment. ASCO is the world’s biggest annual cancer conference and brings together more than 40,000 doctors, drugmakers, scientists and patients to share information and new updates on the best ways to prevent, treat and attack cancer.

Our Mission

West Cancer Foundation’s mission is to break through barriers to cancer care and improve patient outcomes by providing accessible patient resources, early detection and education, and community-based research.
