Ride 2 RosemarySM Cycling Team to Ride 525 Miles in Five Days to Raise Money and Support for Cancer Awareness

70 cyclists will depart Germantown, Tennessee on Saturday, October 8 to cycle to Rosemary Beach, Florida to raise money and awareness for cancer support as they have done for 11 years

MEMPHIS, TENN., September 28, 2022 – On Saturday, October 8, 2022, the Ride 2 RosemarySM team of 70 cyclists will depart on their annual five-day, 525-mile journey from Germantown, Tennessee to Rosemary Beach, Florida to promote cancer awareness and raise funds for the fight against cancer.  The group has participated in the rider-created fundraiser for 11 years. All proceeds will benefit West Cancer Foundation, whose mission is to advance the fight against cancer through research, education, patient support, and community outreach. Those that would like to support the effort or learn more may do so at the Ride 2 RosemarySM fundraising website at this link: https://give.classy.org/R2R22

“Over the years, close to 100 different men have participated in Ride 2 RosemarySM. These men have generously given of their time to do this ride and raise funds for programs to help cancer patients; programs like transportation to life-saving treatments or screening mammograms,” said Keri Burnette, West Cancer Foundation Operations & Donor Relations Manager. “They are making a difference in the lives of cancer patients here in our community and we are so grateful for their generosity and commitment to the fight against cancer.”

The Ride 2 RosemarySM cycling team will depart at approximately 8 a.m. Saturday, October 8 from West Cancer Center located at 7945 Wolf River Boulevard in Germantown, Tennessee. The route will take the cycling team and their support crew from Germantown, Tennessee through Tupelo, Mississippi; Tuscaloosa, Alabama; Selma, Alabama; and Andalusia, Alabama before finally arriving at Rosemary Beach, Florida on Wednesday, October 12.

Ride 2 RosmarySM originated in 2011 when one of the founders was going through some challenges in his life. His vision was to start a new chapter of his life by riding his bicycle to the beach. Eight other men showed their support and joined him on this journey as they rode from Germantown, Tennessee to Rosemary Beach, Florida.

There were nine riders on the very first ride 11 years ago, and they have gained new riders every year, raising over $1.6 million since 2011 as they participate in this charitable cycling event to promote cancer awareness and raise funds for the fight against cancer. The riders cover a little over 100 miles per day over the 5-day journey and train all year long with group rides, individual rides, and other cycling events throughout the city, even across the country and globe depending on the rider, to build up to the level of pace needed to complete the journey.

“What started out as a group of cyclists on a ride turned into an annual fundraising event after Dr. Todd Tillmanns suggested we could do the ride to benefit programs to support cancer patients,” said RIDE TO ROSEMARY RIDER.  “Every year we invite new riders to join us, and this year 70 cyclists will come together in the fight against cancer and embark on this journey while raising money and awareness in support of the mission of West Cancer Foundation.”

International Paper is the presenting sponsor for this event, and other sponsors include West Cancer Center & Research Institute, Green Mountain Technology, Kim and Johnny Pitts, Pitchfork Farm,  Boyle Investment Company, Jerry and Margot Ladd, LSI Graphics, and Rosemary Beach Cottage Rental Company.
