MEMPHIS, TENN., October 2, 2024 – The Ride 2 Rosemary® cycling team, a group of Memphis men who cycle to raise money for West Cancer Foundation, will kick off its annual 525-mile journey from Germantown, Tenn., to Rosemary Beach, Fla., on Saturday, Oct 12. Now in its 14th year, the group of 71 cyclists will cycle more than 100 miles per day over five days to help fund free cancer-related services to those in need in Memphis. The free services include breast screenings, transportation to and from oncology appointments, wigs, and post-surgery garments and prostheses. West Cancer Foundation works with all cancer patients in Memphis, regardless of where they are being treated. Those wishing to donate can do so at https://give.classy.org/R2R24.
To build up their stamina, the cyclists train all year long by doing group and individual rides as well as other cycling events not only in Memphis, but throughout the country and even internationally, depending on the rider. “You won’t find a more inspiring group of men who dedicate their time, commitment and financial resources to make Ride 2 Rosemary the incredible event it has become,” said West Cancer Foundation President Leighanne Soden. There are literally people along the route who come out of their houses and businesses to cheer them on. It’s a remarkable thing to see, especially when you consider the many cancer patients whose lives are improved and enriched because of their unwavering dedication.”
The Ride 2 Rosemary cycling team will depart at approximately 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, from West Cancer Center located at 7945 Wolf River Boulevard in Germantown, Tenn. The route will take the cycling team and their support crew from Germantown through Tupelo, Miss., and Tuscaloosa, Selma and Andalusia, Ala. before arriving at Rosemary Beach, Fla. on Wednesday, October 16.
Ride 2 Rosemary originated in 2011 when one of the founders was going through some challenges in his life and wanted a new passion to focus on in order to help with his mental, emotional and physical health. He decided to ride his bicycle to the beach and, in the process, raise money for a good cause. Eight other men showed their support and joined him on the more than 500-mile journey with all proceeds going to what is now West Cancer Foundation. The nine riders from the very first ride have grown to more than 70 riders today. Over the last 13 years, the group has raised more than $2.5 million to provide cancer support services in Memphis.
The 2024 Ride 2 Rosemary is presented by International Paper with support from Pitchfork Farm, LSI Graphics, Boyle Investment Company, West Cancer Center & Research Institute, Magnolia Plumbing, Ashley Home Store, and Kim and Johnny Pitts.
