West Fight On 2024: A Record-Breaking Success in the Fight Against Cancer

On behalf of West Cancer Foundation, we extend our deepest gratitude to those who made this year’s West Fight On a tremendous success. Thank you to everyone who ran, walked, cycled, cheered, celebrated, volunteered and donated to make West Fight On 2024 a record-breaking year. This year we had more than 1,800 people participate, and we raised just over $615,000.

Together, we’ve not only raised vital funds to continue to provide FREE cancer services to our community, but also to spread hope to those fighting this battle. Your dedication and spirit are what make this event so special and impactful.

Please enjoy these photos of the various activities from throughout the day and feel free to download and share them

P.S. Don’t forget to save the date for next year – September 6, 2025.

Fight On!

Give a ‘Gram to a Woman in Need

Even though October is technically Breast Cancer Awareness month, breast cancer awareness is an all-year priority for us. That’s why we’ve launched our Give a ‘Gram campaign that makes it easy for people to pitch in and help fund free mammograms for Memphis women in need. In Memphis, almost one-third of our population is either uninsured or underinsured, making getting a mammogram close to impossible. It’s these women who need a helping hand.

Here’s how you can help: For just $20, you can help fund a mammogram for a woman who might not otherwise have access to this essential screening. When you Give a ‘Gram, you are providing hope, health and the chance for early intervention that can save lives.

Join us in this crucial effort to ensure that every woman has the opportunity for early detection and care. Your contribution not only supports individual health but also strengthens our collective fight against breast cancer.

Donate today and be a part of something truly impactful. Together, we can make a real difference in the lives of many women.

Yale Radiologists Develop ‘Trojan Horse’ Cancer Treatment

Yes, you read that right. Just like the Trojan Horse that snuck into Troy undercover, Yale scientists have discovered a new method for killing cancer cells that sneaks past cancer’s defenses. Cancer cells are very good at hiding from both our immune systems and drug delivery systems, making it very difficult to target them without harming surrounding healthy tissue.  This new drug delivery system is able to deliver anticancer therapy without damaging healthy tissue. “By targeting extracellular nucleic acids instead of surface receptors, our drug delivery system can basically target any necrotic tumor regardless of type, making it a tumor-agnostic therapy,” said James Hansen, senior author of the study, member of Yale Cancer Center, and radiation oncology chief of Yale’s Gamma Knife Program.

East Memphis Rotary Club  Provides Grant to
Fund Free Transportation to Cancer Appointments

Thank you to the East Memphis Rotary Club for their grant of $2,500. This generous contribution will directly fund 74 rides to cancer patients in need. West Cancer Foundation’s transportation program provides essential FREE rides for patients who need to attend medical appointments and treatments. For many individuals undergoing cancer treatment, reliable transportation can be a critical barrier to accessing the care they need.

Our Mission

West Cancer Foundation’s mission is to break through barriers to cancer care and improve patient outcomes by providing accessible patient resources, early detection and education, and community-based research.
