Memphis, TN, Feb. 21, 2024 – West Cancer Foundation, which provides free cancer services to those in need, today announced the third annual She to Sea cycling event will launch on March 16 and include 20 women who will cycle from Memphis to Seagrove Beach, Fla., to raise funds for the foundation and the fight against cancer. The group of elite athletes will ride more than 500 miles over five days and arrive in Seagrove Beach on March 20.
She to Sea was started in 2022 by 10 female athletes who wanted to honor the lives of those touched by cancer and raise money to provide free cancer services to the Memphis community. This year’s event is presented by Pinnacle Financial Partners│Fountain Financial Group with additional sponsorship from Eisai, SuperLo Foods, H&M Construction and Vulcraft Steel Manufacturer.
“The dedication of these women is truly inspiring. They literally give it their all to train throughout the year in order to complete this epic journey so that others may receive life-saving cancer services,” said West Cancer Foundation President Leighanne Hart Soden. “In just three short years, they’ve doubled their team size. I can hardly wait to see how they continue to build this initiative and expand their support so that more people can receive free cancer services in our community.”
“She to Sea has become a staple in my life,” said She to Sea founding member Shelby Tucker. “During the five days, these ladies lift me up, let me cry, process difficulties, make me laugh, and hug me when I need it. We get to drop pride, comparison, and walls that build up in our outside lives so we can make it to our destination and raise money for West Cancer Foundation with grace and a full heart. My fellow riders have come around me off the bike and do life with me as a whole. I think between that and getting to bring awareness and support to West Cancer Foundation is what makes this ride so beautiful. The foundation does so much for the cancer community, that means a tremendous amount to each rider on She to Sea. We get to do what we love, for the people we love, for an organization we love. There is nothing better.”
She to Sea cyclists will depart Memphis on Saturday, March 16, at 8:30 a.m. from the West Cancer Center located at 7945 Wolf River Boulevard in Germantown, Tenn. The team will ride more than 100 miles per day and the route will take them and their support crew from Germantown through Tupelo, Miss., and Tuscaloosa, Selma and Andalusia, Ala. before finally arriving at Seagrove Beach, Fla. on Wednesday, March 20.
