How to Get Started: Turning Your Idea into Action
Starting a DIY fundraiser may sound daunting, but it’s easier than you think—and our team is here to help. Here’s a simple roadmap to turn your idea into impact:
- Choose Your Fundraising Idea
Pick something that feels authentic to you—whether it’s a solo challenge, neighborhood event or company initiative. The best fundraisers are those that reflect your passions and connect with your community. - Set a Goal
A clear fundraising goal helps motivate both you and your supporters. Consider linking your goal to something concrete that has real meaning and impact. For instance, you can decide to raise a certain amount of money to fund specific free cancer services:- $70 provides a free ride to and from a cancer appointment or treatment
- $50 provides a free wig
- $200 funds a breast or prostate cancer screening for someone who’s uninsured
- $500 provides free mental health counseling for a cancer patient or their caregiver (5 sessions)
- $400 provides a free post-surgery garment or prostheses
- Register Your Fundraiser
Once you’ve chosen your idea, let us know! We’d love to support you with:- A personalized donation link / QR code for your collateral

- Messaging about how your fundraiser supports our mission
- Tips to promote your event and engage your audience

Use social media, email and word-of-mouth to share your event. If you’re doing this through your company, you can share through corporate communications channels and even by putting up flyers in common areas if approved. Be sure to tell your personal “why”—why you’re inspired to fundraise for West Cancer Foundation. That personal connection is what moves others to join you. - Engage & Celebrate

Your donations help fund free cancer services, including transportation assistance, breast and prostate cancer screenings, post-surgical garments and prostheses, mental health counseling and wigs at our onsite Sweet Wig Beauty Boutique—providing hope and healing to patients and families across the Mid-South. West Cancer Foundation services are available to all cancer patients in the Memphis area no matter where they are being treated.
