MEMPHIS, TENN., September 24, 2024 – West Cancer Foundation, a Memphis-based nonprofit that provides free cancer services to improve patient outcomes, today announced it has expanded its executive team with the appointment of Cynthia Bowers as Director of Community Engagement and Outreach. In this role, Bowers is responsible for connecting with various community groups, businesses, physicians and other healthcare providers to promote the Foundation’s services. In addition to funding cancer screenings, education and research designed to improve health inequities, the Foundation provides free cancer services to those who are uninsured or underinsured. The free services include transportation to and from treatment appointments, lymphedema garments, and post-mastectomy prostheses, garments and wigs.
Bowers joins West Cancer Foundation from United Way of the Mid-South where she was the Manager of Corporate Giving. In this role, she managed account portfolios and donor relations for the nonprofit. Prior to United Way, Bowers spent 35 years with FedEx where she held multiple project management positions throughout her tenure.
Bowers has been involved for many years with her church and numerous community organizations, including FedEx Family House, Toys for Tots, Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program, and many other organizations across the Mid-South.
“Cynthia embodies the power of change that can occur when groups come together to promote the same cause,” said Leighanne Soden, West Cancer Foundation President. “Having cancer can be devastating, but it’s even more challenging for those in our community who are underserved. Cynthia’s work with the Foundation will open the door for many more cancer patients to access our free services, no matter their income level, zip code or where they are receiving treatment. We’re delighted to have her on our team.”
