—Cancer Patients Can Select Free Wigs in Private Setting—
Memphis, TN, Jan. 23, 2024 – West Cancer Foundation, a nonprofit organization that provides free cancer services to those in need, today announced it has opened a new wig boutique to provide free wigs for cancer patients. The Sweet Wig Beauty Boutique, located within West Cancer Foundation’s offices, provides a private, salon-like setting where those being treated for cancer can select a wig at no charge.
Since its founding in 2020, the foundation has provided free wigs but decided to create a dedicated space to accommodate the growing number of wig requests it’s receiving. While the need for wigs is most commonly associated with breast cancer, people can lose their hair as a result of treatment for any type of cancer. The free wigs and other head coverings (hats, scarves, etc.) offered at the Sweet Wig Beauty Boutique are available to any cancer patients regardless of their hospital or treatment provider. An appointment is required, and only one patient and their guest will be allowed in the boutique at a time to offer complete privacy.
In addition to offering free wigs at the new boutique, West Cancer Foundation also offers free transportation for cancer-related appointments and treatments, including rides to and from the wig boutique.
The boutique has a significant inventory of wigs but is always looking for donations so the foundation has partnered with Gould’s Salon & Spa which will accept wig donations at any of its Memphis locations. Students and staff from Gould’s Academy will clean and style the wigs so they are ready for new owners.
“Losing one’s hair can be devastating for some cancer patients, especially for those who may lack the resources to buy a wig,” said West Cancer Foundation Executive Director Leighanne Soden. “We’re thrilled to be able to expand our wig program with a discrete, salon-inspired setting to help even more women regain their self-confidence and dignity. And now with the opportunity to partner with Gould’s, it’s easy for people to donate wigs to help even more patients.”
