MEMPHIS, TENN., September 10, 2022 – West Fight On along with over 1,300 participants and over 250 volunteers raised over $550,000 for West Cancer Foundation today at Shelby Farms Park to help fund support programs for cancer patients and to help raise awareness and fight cancer disparities in Memphis. West Fight On is the largest fundraiser of the year for West Cancer Foundation, whose mission is to advance the fight against cancer through research, education, patient support, and community outreach. “Words cannot express how grateful we are for everyone who came out and joined us for West Fight On this year,” said Leighanne Soden, West Cancer Foundation Executive Director. “The success of this event would not be possible without so many caring members of our community coming together in the fight against cancer, and we would like to say thank you to everyone that supported West Fight On and helped us raise over $550,000 for patient support programs and cancer research. Over 1300 participants were able to cycle 20, 40, or 60 miles, run a 5k, or walk one mile to raise money to help fight the disparities in cancer care by providing the underinsured and underserved population in the Mid-South area with cancer support services through West Cancer Foundation. West Cancer Foundation also funds cancer research that takes place in the Mid-South which helps those populations as well.
The event concluded with the 5K awards and Top Fundraiser Awards Ceremony and there was music, food, vendors, health information booths, a memorial ribbon display, and activities for kids. Sedgwick was the presenting sponsor for West Fight On for the sixth year and Highland Capital was the silver sponsor for the eighth year in a row.
West Cancer Foundation is a Memphis-based nonprofit organization founded in 2020 to advance the fight against cancer through local research, education, patient support and community outreach. The organization is committed to developing collaborative partnerships and innovative community initiatives that will improve health inequities, increase research, and leave a lasting impact by removing barriers to cancer care. West Cancer Foundation has partnered with the University of Memphis and is funding research to help identify the most effective ways to eliminate poverty that directly affects the early detection and treatment of cancer. They have also partnered with the University of Tennessee Health Science Center and provide grant funding for the Oncology Fellows and Residents Program to help bring the very best young oncology physicians to Memphis.
As part of their mission to advance the fight against cancer, West Cancer Foundation offers programs centered around cancer research and providing cancer patients with assistance and educational support.
